The natural growth in the US is due to high fertility: 1.93 children per woman on average, compared with 1.60 in the EU-27. Total fertility rate concealed local variations that were larger in EU-27 in both 1990 and 2010.
The Hispanic population pushes up fertility levels particularly in the south-western part of the US while in the EU-27 the highest fertility is registered in countries with strong family support policies.
