The phenomenon of the Roma Holocaust in the Czech Republic has often been discussed in recent years in connection with the sites linked with this tragedy. The article introduces a project for a Roma Holocaust Memorial in Hodonin u Kunštátu.
This will not only commemorate the Roma Holocaust, but also the period after the war when the former Gypsy camp was used for the internment of Germans who had been expelled, but were too weak to leave Czechoslovakia. The same site was used as a work camp for political prisoners in the Communist era.
The exhibition will present the camp as 1) a space for expulsion or exclusion from society, 2) a space for the manifestation of political power, and 3) a space for forgetting. The construction of the Memorial was commissioned by the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J.
A. Comenius.
Its opening is expected in 2016/2017.
