The acoustic emission (AE) response of texture-free cast magnesium was studied in-situ during monotonic tension and compression tests at room temperature. The dependence of twinning evolution on loading mode is discussed in detail.
Furthermore, it is shown that the contribution of twinning and dislocation slip to AE signal is distinguishable by means of analysis of AE parameters. The findings are corroborated by light optical microscopy and EBSD results, as well.
