Abstract

Climate changes and related rise of ocean and sea levels may cause flooding of complete territories of existing states in future. Such event will cause many negative results from the legal perspective.

These results entail among others extinction of statehood of the so-called sinking island states, impossibility of their population's protection under current refugee law, statelessness, etc. The contribution discusses these issues.
