Roman Transport Amphorae from Bir Showish, el-Hayz, Bahariya Oasis

Abstrakt

Located in the Western Libyan Desert, el-Hayz forms the independent southern part of the Bahariya Oasis. Amphorae as an ubiquitous ware are found in the Bir Showish area repeatedly, i.e. in the years after and even before.

These findings have indicated intense contacts with neighbouring areas in North Africa (mainly the Tripolitana region) as well as the East Mediterranean area, especially during the 4th and 5th century AD.
