A paraphrase of a question posed by M. A.
V. regarding translation reflects his constant interest in studying the human factor in the translation process. At a time when theories which, until recently, were far from the centre of attention are now being brought into focus, the text concentrates on the issue of the translator as a creator from the viewpoint of the methodology of the Prague School.
The emphasis is placed on the process of translation as a sequence of the translator’s decisions, but also on the role of translation in the translator’s own work as a writer. A study dealing with the language of Karel Čapek serves as an example.
