Abstract

The objective of this project was to identify the level of biotechnology knowledge among Czech secondary school students and their attitudes towards the use of various biotechnological processes and the resulting data compare with the results of similar studies carried out abroad. The necessary data were obtained from the questionnaire investigation among more than 500 students of school year 9th - 13th , at the age between fourteen and nineteen, from eight Prague secondary schools and five secondary schools outside Prague.

The conducted research shows that Czech students have comparable knowledge of biotechnology as the students from abroad, while also showing similar methods of evaluation of the moral acceptability of certain biotechnological processes. With Czech students, statistically significant differences were observed in the level of knowledge of biotechnology and attitudes towards it, depending on their age and gender.
