Despite undeniable progress in the treatment, psoriasis still remains an incurable condition. Systemic treatment is indicated in patients with moderate and severe forms of plaque psoriasis or with other forms of psoriasis.
Conventional systemic treatment utilizes retinoids, ciclosporin or methotrexate with a varied effect and, more recently, modern biological therapy has been used which is very effective. The article deals with systemic psoriasis treatment prior to initiation of biological therapy, evaluation of treatment efficacy, and side effects of treatment.
