Abstract
In the first part, the article discusses the development of thinking about trivial literature in the German-speaking context. The second part deals with dime ghost novels by Christian Heinrich Spiess, shows the process of trivialization of literature in Bohemia around 1800 and the way the ghost novel Das Petermännchen reflects its own triviality.
