Abstract

Elevated potassium is a common problem seen in hospitalized children and can be potentially life-threatening. Emergency management is warranted especially in cases with rapidly rising potassium values, ECG changes, decreased renal functions and presence of significant acidosis.

The goal of the therapy is a prevention of severe arrhytmias development. Renal replacement therapy is used when conservative methods fail.
