Abstract

The offenders, who commit crimes in elder age is not a common target group of criminological research and criminal policy at the present day in the Czech Republic. In the connection with agening population this topic seems to be more interesting in the future.

The article deals with issues of extent, structure and development of registered criminality, criminal policy and sanction policy applied to elder offenders in the Czech Republic, based on official statistics collected by the Ministry of Interior (2000-2012) and the Ministry od Justice (2007-2012), in the context of current findings of criminological research in Germany in the field of registered and latent criminality of seniors. In the field of registered criminality in the Czech Republic it is possible to observe increase of proportion of procecuted senior offenders.

From the point of the structure of criminality it is often less serious criminality with higher proportion of trafic accidents, majority of them are first time offenders. These findings correspond to sanction policy with higher proportion of conditional sentence of imprisonment and fine in proportion to all convicted persons.
