The paper mentions some of the remarkable features of the current terms of teaching Czech as a foreign language in the past (priority teaching Czech as a foreign language in the Habsburg monarchy , reference to this teaching in terms of the intermediate language, traditional and modern methodology , target group outside the ethnic territory ) , which selects as a counterpoint to describe the current state of teaching Czech as a foreign language. The present is evaluated in terms of sociological conditions of teaching Czech as a second language , the role of the state , education, linguistics , and professional organizations with a view of the risks and desirable trend in the future.
