Abstract

The chapter, devoted to the history of Czech language in the first three quarter of the 18th century, is divided into two main sections: one focusing on the Czech of the non-Catholic communities in exile and the other dealing with the language of the works written in the Czech lands. Each of the parts first summarizes the most essential features of the political, cultural, and linguistic situation, and then characterizes the language of selected texts.

Also the use of Czech outside of the Czech lands by other than exile communities is briefly commented on. Finally, the concluding section summarizes the most important features of Baroque Czech and the conditions of its use.
