Therapy of inflammatory bowel disease in children

Abstract

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD ) , which we classify Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis , are a group of immune and chronic relapsing disease of the digestive tract. The incidence of IBD worldwide is constantly increasing and up to 25 % of newly diagnosed cases is manifested in individuals younger than 20 years.

It is this age group deserves special approach, since a young age at diagnosis is associated with a more severe course of the disease and a higher risk of surgery. How the diagnosis itself , and improperly conducted therapy may significantly affect future life of the patient.

For childhood is characterized by a high degree of kortikodependence and kortikorezistence , in addition to many patients over the years become refractory to conventional therapy. Must therefore early and often aggressive therapy initiated as soon as possible after diagnosis, the aim of which is to ensure optimal growth and development of young individuals.
