The treatise, using the metaphorical phrase "to accept a stranger as one of us", deals with the issue of transition of a text from one cultural milieu into another and with new or different ways of reception resulting from the transition. The study does not ask questions that would aim at the critique of translation but deals with the isssues of secondary literary communication and paratext (as G.
Genette defines them). The initial part of the treatise deals with theoretical foundation of the problem, the second part, using the reception of Jáchym Topol's translated books as an example, analyzes some of the theoretical issues from the first part.
Czech and German critical reviews and also some paratexts form the material to be analyzed. Author tries to detect common features of German reviews and use them to point out certain characteristic aspects in the reception of Jáchym Topol in the German speaking cultural context.
