ON THE BEGINNINGS OF THE MOUNTAIN RESCUE

Publication at Faculty of Physical Education and Sport |
2013

Abstract

The article focuses on the history of mountain rescue in the Czech mountains. It describes its development from the first settlement of the mountains until the Second World War.

It details the history of the tragedy of Bohumil Hanč and Václav Vrbata in March 1913, which prompted the search for the standards of mountain safety and of mountain rescue operations. The endeavour culminated in 1935, when the first state-organized Search and Rescue organization, Mountain Rescue-Bergdienst, was established in the Giant Mountains.
