This article reviews the volume ԵՐԿԻՐ 2 YERGIR by Hrair Hawk Khatcherian – a lavish and beautifully-produced collection of breathtaking photographs taken by Hrair Hawk Khatcherian during his travels across the former Armenian sanjaks (provinces) of the Ottoman empireand the former Armenian kingdom of Cilica – all part of present-day Turkey and almost entirely depopulated of their erstwhile Armenian residents. These include churches and monasteries, or ruins thereof, sometimes poignantly juxtaposed with illuminated codices produced at the scriptoria that existed in them.
It includes several scholarly essays of high quality, as well as helpful maps.
