The tradition of publishing historical written sources in the Czech lands is rich. The manifold group of sources, the exploration of which has become increasingly intense and signifi cant during the most recent years and which also enjoy growing interest and popularity from both the professional public and layman readers, is the material of a personal character (the so-called ego-documents) and, notably, their special subcategory of correspondence.
The essential issue here is to determine the aim and purpose of publishing correspondence and, in general, to solve basic methodological aspects.
