From his childhood was Jiří Pelikán (1923-1999) communist activist. After 1948, he became one of frontal functionary of Communist party.
He was responsible for the purge of thousands of academics from the universities. In his forties, he became the director of the Czechoslovak television and he took part in important social changes in the second part of 60th.
In 1968, he was, under Soviet pressure withdrawn, he left his post of the director and emigrated to Italy. He published the periodical Listy.
During 1979-1989, he was depute of European Parlament for Italian Socialist Party.
