The minority question was of the main problems of Czechoslovakia between world wars. A major influence on the status of minorities in Czechoslovakia (in Poland, Hungary, Austria and other states too) was exercised by the international legal measures to protect minorities sponsored by the League of Nations.
For Czechoslovakia was special minority treaty, signed at Saint-Germain-en-Laye on September 10, 1919. National legislation in Czechoslovakia can be divided into general aspects (for example Constitution) and three basic parts (language law, minority schools and the status of minorities in public administration).
The organization of public administration, along with the issues of the official language and national schooling, were traditionally (in the monarchy before 1918 too) crucial for the status of national minorities.
