The most important sources of information on student achievement in the Czech Republic are international surveys of student knowledge and skills. In the Czech Republic, they are carried out regularly since the beginning of 90s and they can serve as a valuable source of information and methodology, and a source of information for education research.
The paper lists the surveys carried out in the Czech Republic and describes indicators provided by these surveys. The third part of the paper discusses an insufficient utilization of the data and methodological resources by the educational community and the need of a higher activity of researchers and educators in the area of assessment of student achievement.
