Abstract

Failure to comply with the guidelines on the time of application of the vaccine against mumps can result in post-vaccination mumps disease in later life. The first dose of parenterally administered vaccine should be applied to children which are older than 15 months.

In the earlier application younger children are at high risk of interference of maternal antibodies that reduce the immune response after vaccination. Unlike primary mumps vaccine - the disease is characterized by the absence of swelling in parotid area and the incidence of serious complications (irritation of the pancreas, non-infected meningitis, orchitis in older boys and men).

Because of its severity complications patient needs requiring hospitalization. Case report deals with post-vaccination mumps 16-year-old-boy.
