Abstract
The article represents the first attempt ever in Czech to analyze the „life and works“ of Russian missionaries in the aria of lake Urmiah (in Persian Azerbaijan, Iran). Although this missionary enterprise is described in chronological order (within the wider context of other missionary organizations, especially the anglican „Archibishop of Canterbury´s Assyrian Mission“), emphasis i salso placed on the cultural and educational consequences of the presence of the Russian monks and laity among the Syriac Christians (mostly members of the Church of the East).
