Bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaws

Publication at Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen |
2009

Abstract

Bisphosphonates are potent inhibitors of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption, which are used in the treatment of metabolic and malignant diseases involving the skeleton in the rheumatological and oncological patients. Osteonecrosis of the jaws has appeared as other advers effect of these drugs, especially due to receiving highly potent nitrogen-containing bisphosphonates.
