Diagnosis of occupational asthma should include both the diagnosis of asthma and the establishment of a relation between the asthma and work. The number of criteria necessary to establish the relation to work includes confirmation of work-related bronchoconstriction and of non-specific bronchial reactivity, and confirmation of sensitization to occupational agents.
Specific inhalation challenge test have been proposed as the gold standard in the diagnosis of occupational asthma.
