Acceptability of 1st person singular or plural auctoris by lay recipients

Abstract

The article deals with effect of scientific text in which the author writes in the first person singular or plural. Respondents were to read the same paragraph of scientific text in two variants (first person singular or plural).

Respondents were asked to write down what kind of effect the texts have on them. It showed that respondents perceive the text written in plural as more coherent, better structured, more relevant.

The text written in singular is perceived as a less important research repport.
