Abstract

The western province of Bohemia, in the medieval kingdom of the same name, numbered ten male Cistercian abbeys but only two Cistercian female convents, Pohled and Sezemice, after the project of a third foundation presented in Prague in 1330 by Queen Elizabeth Přemyslide was rejected. In the European context of the time, this ratio appears exceptionnally unfavorable to women.
