Abstract
The paper concerns with the topic of sentence and approaches to it in Czech syntactic monographies. We mention that the concept of sentence is polysemical - terminological and non-terminological (items of common word-stock).
Studying language, we can see that the word "sentence" is metaphorised in Czech linguistic world-view on the base of some images, some of them reflects features which are focused in scientific syntax.
