The Western Carpathians represent a complex Alpine orogenic system developed on ruins of the Variscan orogenic belt. Its evolution progressed from the Middle Triassic rifting, which was related to opening of the Meliata Ocean, up to final soft collision of the frontal accretionary wedge with the North European Platform
