The article presents results of a qualitative research that has been done among Czech environmental education centers and regional and municipal government institutions providing financial support in this area. Three research questions were discussed: what evaluation strategies are used by the organizations? How are the strategies connected with methodology of the programs, resp. how the programs correspondent with standards for effective environmental education? How important is a real effectiveness of the programs for local government’s decision about their financial support? The research proved that few organizations use evaluation strategies providing relevant information about program effectiveness, there are methodological weaknesses in majority of analyzed programs and the local government institutions do not have and do not demand relevant information about effectiveness of supported programs
