The aim of our study is to analyze the process of rectangularization of the survival curve in the selected European countries. We focus mainly on the post-communist countries in the Central and Eastern Europe.
In all of these countries we can expect improving mortality conditions and rising life expectancy. Thanks to special demographic indicators developed for measuring the rectangularity of the survival curve we could study the developing process of mortality in more detail.
On the basis of the mentioned analysis we can draw a comparison of all involved countries and also find out the possibilities of future trends of improving the mortality. The study of the rectangularization of the survival curve is getting slowly a common tool of analyzing the mortality and it offers a new point of view.
