Information about snow cover and its dynamics during the snow melt period is of high importance for hydrological modeling. The paper discusses possibilities of continuous and near-real time snow cover monitoring in the Czech Republic based on data collected from the receiving station placed at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague, namely MSG and NOAA/AVHRR.
In spite of high temporal resolution, the usability of this data showed to be very low in winter period due to cloud cover. Methodology of snow discrimination from ENVISAT/ASAR was therefore developed and tested.
The results of a case study are presented. Advantages of possible combination of both types of data are pointed out.
