Soluble RAGE and its proinflammatory ligands plasma levels in PD seem to be influenced by the degrese of microinflammation, dose of dialysis, peritoneal transport, BMI/nutrition status and in the case of sRAGE and HMGB-1 by residual renal function as well. HMGB-1 seems to be a highly sensitive marker of cytotoxicity of peritoneal dialysis solution.
Mutual correlation between HMGB-1 and EN-RAGE demonstrated in all subgroups studied supports the idea that the biological activity of these proinflammatory ligands is closely interrelated.
