Principiality of Subject in the Context of a History : The Study of Descartes and Kant's Conception of the Subjectivity

Publication |
2009

Abstract

Essay consists in discussion focused on the concept of subjectivity as exposed by Descartes and Kant. These two philosophers are unified both by understanding of man as a finite being appearing among the other beings in the world – including even genesis –, and, on the other side, principle of one´s own activities, in this respect principle of himself.

They manifest extremes of this position from historical point of view: Descartes is 'the initial thinker' of prinicpiality of final subject existing in-the-world, Kant is the consummator of this understanding of man and its place in the world, and this is the reason why they are treated jointly. Interpretation emphasizes the ways how concept of man as the principle of himself copes with the problem of human historical positionality and history itself.
