Engineering deep cuts in granites related to slope stability – Ground investigation results and reality

Publication at Faculty of Science |
2009

Abstract

The paper gives characteristics of the weathering features of granites. Problems with engineering geological investigations in granites are discussed in relation to investigation methods and expected results.

The paper emphasizes that with routine engineering geological investigations of the complex conditions of a granitic massif, the critical features that control slope stability may not be detected. A cut over 30m deep at a construction site in the north of Czech Republic is used as an example of the complex conditions of a granitic massif with respect to slope stability.
