The period from 1840 to 1890 was of a critical significance for evolution of landscape painting and established the aesthetical and ideological schemes characteristic for the Czech landscape painting of that time. The publication analyze period topics, the major trends and their factors in datails.
Respective research was based on the evidence of the landscape painting items presented at the annual exhibitions of the Art Union in Bohemia („Krasoumna jednota“) from 1840 to 1890, including the sale records andperiod critical references. Main interest is focused on elucidation of actual influences from particular art centres (Munich, Vienna, Düesseldorf, etc) during the covered period and development of preferences for particular landscape types, motiffs and sources in both the critical references and sale dynamics.
