Abstract

Review article of Franklin I. Gamwell, The Divine Good.

In dialogue with classical and modern proposals of moral theory Gamwell argues that the commitment to autonomy of human reason and experience does not disqualify metaphysics and theism. In fact, he argues that the ground of moral theory must be transcendental and teleological and by exploiting the insights of Charles Hartshorne he concludes it must take the form of ?neoclassical? theism, where the ultimate metaphysical principle is creative synthesis called ?divine good?.
