Diabetes mellitus type 2 and cerebral vascular events

Abstract

Summary: The incidence of cerebral vascular events in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2 is severalfold higher in comparison with the rest of population. The main modifiable risk factors for its occurrence are hyperglycaemia, dyslipidaemia, hypertension, insulin resistance.

The hypertension treatment (ACE inhibitors), anti-aggregative treatments and statins decrease the risk in the secondary and primary prevention of cerebral vascular events in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2.
