Abstract
In this article the autor focuses on the main factors causing fundamentalist attitudes and patterns of behaviour among Muslims in central Europe. On the basis of psychological and sociological research the author relates the rise of fundamentalism among some contemporary Muslims to the historical context and social conditions of their existence.
Towards the end of the article the author relates the situation in contemporary Muslim societies to the complex historical framework of the interaction of Western and Islamic cultures
