In this article the author analyzes various theological views of the relation between the polarity of sacred and profane (as a general feature of religious perception of reality) on the one hand and the particular nature of Christian liturgy on the other. A wide range of theological evaluations of the sacred/profane polarity in relation to Christian worship is surveyed.
Towards the end of the article the essential characteristics of worship ceremonies as presented in normative texts of Christian tradition are presented and analyzed.
