CBT Approach to Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Publication |
2001

Abstract

The feeling of fatigue is a common human experience. Approximately 20 per cent of the general population report a symptom of significant or persistent fatigue, but only 0.,3-1 per cent develop case defined as Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

Infectious, immunological and psychopathological ethiology is discussed. Psychopathological explanations of CFS are clinically plausible.

Therefore, relevant psychiatric treatment is to be found and standardised. Cognitive-behavioral therapy seems to be effective.
