Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug with analgesic and antipyretic activity. The basis of antiinflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic effects is inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by cyclooxygenase (COX).
Ibuprofen is non-selective inhibitor of COX-1 and COX-2. Ibuprofen is indicated for a various inflammatory and painful states as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, mild-to-moderate pain, primary dysmenorrhea, and reduction of fever.
