Electroconvulsive Therapy in Pregnancy

Publication |
2002

Abstract

The effects and risks of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) during pregnancy on both mother and fetus have received comparatively tittle attention. ECT is a relatively effective treatment during pregnancy if steps aretaken to decrease potential risks.

We always have to judge risk benefit ratio. All clinical recommendations are based on case reports.

The quidelines for the use of ECTin pregnancy are discused. Zhese guidelines are proposed as a result of our interest in this treatment modality and our wish that it be used safely when indicated.
