We studied mutations of the HFE gene C282Y and H63D in patients with alcoholic liver cirrhosis and steatosis and in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis and steatosis. We measured simultaneously the content of iron in liver tissue and biochemical markers of iron metabolism in these groups of patients.

The prevalence of both mutations in the two groups of patients did not differ significantly. There was no correlation between the studied gene mutations and the severity of liver injury.
