Abstract

Clinical application research of the CNS participates in integration of the neurobiological investigation of mental disorders. It is focused on the practical implementation of the neurocognitive model, on the improvement of functional outcome and augmentation strategies in treatment of schizophrenia.

The CNS supported foundation of a specialized computerized lab for psychological assessments, neuropsychological diagnostics, and rehabilitation. First results of a computer-assisted rehabilitation program of cognition in schizophrenia suggest positive effects on some areas of cognitive deficit.

Important outputs are the publication of a battery of neurocognitive tests, validization studies of some neuropsychological tests, and publication of new test norms. Results of a study of group psychoeducation for schizophrenia patients and their relatives indicate a positive impact of psychoeducation on quality of life.

Clinical application research also deals with other clinical problems associated with treatment of mental disorders, e.g., pharmacotherapy in pregnancy and lactation. One of the goals of the CNS is a support of postgraduate education of the young researchers.
