Disturbed night sleep belongs to the common complaints of patients with panic disorder. The results of polysomnographic examinations in 20 patients, both before and after treatment, are reported in this paper.
Surprisingly, reduced anxiety after successful treatment of the panic disorder was not necessarily followed by improvement of the sleep parameters. The results of the study suggest that the therapy typically applied in these patients is not sufficient to treat the co-existing insomnia.
Consequently, it seems to be of importance to supplement the treatment of panic disorders with specific treatment of the sleep disturbance
