Abstract
Family interventions constitute an integral part of complex schizophrenia treatment. Successful interventions must take into account relatives' beliefs, perspectives and issues of concern. In order to identify these problem areas qualitative research methods are preferred. The goal of this paper is to
1) describe patients'preferences about thein relatives' involvement in the treatment,
2) to overview studies on family burden,
3) to identify available research methods and
4) to propose the optimal research strategy (focus groups) to identify key elements of successful family intervention
