Ethical problems in burn care

Publication at Third Faculty of Medicine |
2006

Abstract

The traditional goal of medicine was health, but not prolonging life without considering patient's dignity. The prognosis of burn patients is dependent ? apart from adequate treatment - upon health care system and health care professionals, regarding not only survival, but also life-long quality of life.

The increasing interest in economic justification of any treatment calls for considering the ethical aspects. Still another factor required is a highly individual approach to every patient and each family background to prevent the other extreme - dysthanasia - a condition of futile treatment.
