The study summarises the reasons for continuous and detailed measurement and monitoring of mechanical parameters of the respiratory system in patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Then, a structure of a novel monitoring syslem is presented.
The system is suitable for monitoring of conventional and high-frequency oscillatory ventilation. Thanks to the real-time modelling of the respiratory system, separate mechanical parameters of the lungs, chest wall and the whole respiratory system can be evaluated continuously by breath-to-breath analysis.
