Abstract

The treatment of pelvic pain is a complex issue due to low success rate in determining their pathopsychological causes. These difficulties are most often classified as interstitial cystitis (IC) or chronic prostatitis (CP).

In addition to paintful symptoms in pelvic organs, also present are functional difficulties enhanced by psychological strain which eventually assumes a dominant role as a consequence of prolonged and not always efficient therapy. Sexual function of men irrespective of age can be easily affected.

The combination of chronic pain and psychical alternation is a nurturing ground for sexual dysfunction in general. Based on a joint urologist and anatomist view and detailed insight into the nervous supply of the pelvic organ area, the autors have tried to identify the hypothetical links explaining the cause of sexual dysfunction in men.
